A mixed-media 'combine' in which Rauschenberg fuses found fabrics, a necktie, paper and paint into a single surface that reads like a visual poem connecting the accidental and the made.
A pale, patchwork ground of layered papers and washes is suddenly interrupted by a compact, textured tangle of vivid teal, orange and dark impasto that feels like a dried spill or floral residue, while a faded tie and dripping paint anchor the work in everyday life.
One of Rauschenberg’s 1950s experiments that blurred painting and objecthood—bringing commonplace materials and chance into the studio—and helped open postwar art toward Pop, assemblage, and mixed-media practice.
