Einbauplan des BMW-Hornet
Georg Trump
German, 1896–1985
c. 1931
A letterpress-printed installation diagram for the BMW “Hornet” aircraft engine, made to communicate the engine’s parts and mounting details to engineers and mechanics.
You first notice the clinical precision: a dense technical line drawing studded with numbered leaders on the left is balanced by a tall column of compact German labels on the right, all anchored by a bold black title and a small red italic note beneath it.
Dating from c.1931, this sheet exemplifies modernist graphic discipline—using restrained typography, strict layout, and exacting draughtsmanship—to make complex industrial information legible and to shape functional design practices in engineering and publishing.
