Offices for Willis Faber & Dumas Ltd., Ipswich, England (Scale model, 1:200)
Foster Associates
British, founded 1967
1970-75
A plastic scale model of Foster Associates’ design for the Willis Faber & Dumas offices in Ipswich, made to present a flowing, glass‑walled office block topped with a landscaped roof and shown in relation to its town context.
Seen from above, the softened triangular mass with a pale green roof and a transparent central atrium reads like a sculpted island among tiny, rectilinear houses and cars, emphasizing the building’s airy lightness and deliberate contrast with its surroundings.
This project is an early exemplar of high‑tech office design—celebrating structure, transparency, and roof landscaping—and helped establish Foster’s influential approach to modern corporate architecture.
