Olga Rozanova
Russian, 1886–1918
1913
An illustrated book (lithographs with a letterpress cover) in which Olga Rozanova fused avant‑garde poetry and abstract graphic experimentation into a single designed object.
A pale mauve square cover is pierced by a bold, black, chiseled abstract emblem and a stark Cyrillic title across the top, the contrast between the soft ground and the severe geometric mark grabbing immediate attention.
An early Russian avant‑garde book that treats the page and cover as sites for nonrepresentational art and typographic invention, pointing toward later Constructivist approaches to graphic design.
