"All the Howard Sterns Represents You"

"All the Howard Sterns Represents You"

2007
A 2007 screenprint with ink additions that uses the look of advertising and a celebrity name to challenge how representation in mass media addresses—and implicates—individual viewers.
You’re struck by the large, black capitals “REPRESENTS YOU” set against a dizzying field of concentric blue lines, topped by a casual, hand-lettered “all the Howard Sterns,” which flips a commercial address into a pointed, ironic accusation.
Combining poster aesthetics, bold typography, and hand-drawn annotation, the piece continues a tradition in contemporary printmaking of using familiar commercial forms to critique celebrity culture, spectatorship, and the limits of seeing oneself through media.
