A screenprint with ink and tape additions that uses the name of a pop star and a blunt declaration to confront viewers with what it means to be “represented.”
You’re hit by huge, black block letters spelling “REPRESENTS YOU” set against a dizzying teal, concentric line pattern, topped by a scrawled “Britney Spears,” a tiny wry disclaimer near the bottom, and a scrap of blue tape as a physical punctuation.
Working in the wake of Pop art and street poster culture, the piece uses celebrity as a stand-in to question how media, market, and institutional forces claim to speak for us and to force viewers to recognize their own complicity.
