Viaggi postali (Postal Voyages)
Alighiero Boetti
Italian, 1940–1994
1969-70
Nineteen postage envelopes with stamps and postmarks that Boetti circulated through postal systems so the routes, stamps and chance interactions would become co‑authors of a work about travel, time, and authorship.
A quiet constellation of worn, cream envelopes—each hand‑addressed and marked with different stamps, smudged postmarks, and travel stickers—reads like a pared‑down map of absent journeys pinned to the wall.
By treating the postal system itself as medium and collaborator, Boetti helped push conceptual art beyond the studio, making networks, bureaucracy and chance visible as artistic processes that link people and places worldwide.
