Vase
Daum Frères, Nancy, France
French, established 1875
c. 1900
A painted glass vase by Daum Frères (Nancy) from around 1900 that marries a slender, architectural form with an iridescent, enamelled surface to transform a utilitarian vessel into an Art Nouveau objet d’art.
At first glance its pearly, rosy‑gold sheen and subtle metallic reflections dominate, while the slender shaft flares into a softly triangular base where the scratched‑in “Daum Nancy” signature sits like a hidden highlight in the glass.
An emblem of French Art Nouveau glassmaking, this work shows how Daum’s experimental surface treatments and painterly enamels helped elevate glass from craft to expressive modern design at the turn of the century.
