Parc Delessert, 32 Quai de Passy
Eugène Atget
French, 1857–1927
1914
An albumen silver print by Eugène Atget that quietly records a corner of Parc Delessert—an unembellished photographic study meant to document the city's pathways, plantings, and built edges.
You first notice the soft, sunlit tangle of shrubs and grass contrasted with the hard geometry of the stone steps and trellised wall on the right, whose strong lines draw the eye upward into a hazy canopy.
Part of Atget’s systematic inventory of Paris, this work helped establish the everyday city as a legitimate subject for art and influenced later documentary and surrealist photographers by treating ordinary urban corners with archival care and poetic attention.
