Bud Vase
Daum Frères, Nancy, France
French, established 1875
c. 1910
A blown painted-glass bud vase whose elongated, narrow neck and teardrop base are meant to display a single stem while celebrating subtle, nature-inspired color and surface effects.
What strikes you is the improbably tall, tapered neck rising from a rounded base, with smoky yellow‑green glass that swirls into mottled red and brown at the bottom, producing an almost living, skin‑like marbling.
Made by Daum Frères around 1910, it embodies Art Nouveau’s turn to organic form and the studio’s innovations in layered, painted glass that advanced decorative glassmaking as a modern art.
