Bud Vase
Daum Frères, Nancy, France
French, established 1875
c. 1910
A slender blown and painted glass bud vase meant to hold a single stem while celebrating delicate color and surface effects.
Its rounded, weighty base rises into an improbably long, narrow neck, and a soft gradient from dusty pink to deep plum with mottled, painterly surface gives the object the look of a stretched, glowing drop of color.
Made by Daum Frères around 1910, it reflects the Nancy school's Art Nouveau experiments in color, surface treatment, and organic form that helped elevate glassmaking from craft to modern decorative art.
